Confession is not in my disposition, Humility isn't for me. I have too much accusation, To stoop to mutual sympathy- To offer up in supplication, My rightful property, Or stand before adjudication, Bowing my head as if I were guilty. Even if I too have failed in perfection... It is probably due to thee.

The Orb should have remained sitting on the library mantelpiece next to the glass case clock; It is where it was placed all those years ago and where it should stay. The Librarians were protective of it, they say the Orb held powers, ancient powers only the chosen could harness. I know nothing about such powers...

Jamaica has a scent as distinct as its culture; complex, heady, exciting and tinged with a hint of the unexpected. Marianne was the same, she was a kaleidoscope of emotions and passion; gentleness and fury, love and hunger, all rolled into one petite body. Our relationship was the proverbial rollercoaster; one of attraction, desire and raging arguments; fights, with her throwing stuff and me ducking and diving to keep from being hit.

We all have dark times in our lives; times when the clouds of uncertainty gather about us, when the shadows in our minds slam shut the doorway of hope. These are times when the future looks bleak, when tomorrow is nothing more than a harbinger of anguish and our past lives a wasteland of futile labour. Sitting in darkened rooms, listening to sad songs and reading dark words lends a little comfort to our souls as we contemplate the tattered remains of our world.

It was the summer of 1937. He liked to watch the murky Muddy Creek waters ripple in the sunlight and bend their way towards town.

In the moonless night, the target floated in the harbor’s dark water, anchored fore and aft. A faint hiss broke the silence as climbing ropes and grappling hooks sailed into the air from Plumett NS50 Silent Launchers. Within moments, a sharp tug secured each hook to a quarterdeck railing on the cruise ship, two each on the port side, the starboard, and from the stern.

He woke up. He thought he could hear someone breathing in the next room, the near silent, smooth sound of air in and out. He touched the pillow next to him. But there was no one there. The room was too dark to let him see, but he felt movement, the shift of blanket and sheet. He whispered to himself, "Listen." He listened harder, he thought he could hear his wife’s breath, thick and heavy next to him, but there was no one there.

Synesius of Cyrene meandered casually through the library at the Serapeum, its massive domed roof a reminder that this was a Greek, not Egyptian, architectural masterpiece. Every few yards he stopped and looked at the shelf labels near him. Finally, after about twenty minutes he saw the small figure of his mistress standing next to a distant shelf as she organized the scrolls upon it. Smiling, Synesius approached her with a reverent bow, “Salve, August Mistress!”
