AMARNA, episode 1

Amarna preview smallAnd so we made it, despite the revolt of the Amazon oompa-loompas.
Because you see, I spent almost one hour uploading the text and the cover of the first episode of AMARNA on Amazon, and when I hit publish the thing just vanished.
[snaps fingers] Like that!

And so I said to myself, what the heck, I’ll use Gumroad1.

And so, here it goes – a simple zip file including both the epub and the mobi versions of the first episode of my serial, DRM-free, that you can buy on Gumroad for the same price you’d pay for the mobi alone on Amazon2.

And what’s more, on Gumroad you can SUBSCRIBE to the whole series, and get the files in your mailbox as soon as they are released, saving up to 22% on the retail price of the six installments.
Is this cool or what?

And now, what about a little preview?
Want to see how it starts?

Where to start?
All stories begin somewhere, but it’s the storyteller’s choice, because there will always be a before, as there will always be an after.
So, where does it starts?
In Arles, Provence, June the 6th 1899, as I scream my heart out in the arms of the midwife?
In Passchendaele, October the 15th 1918, as I try to keep the ambulance on track in the fog, and smoke, and darkness?
In Versailles, June the 28th 1919, as I walk dim corridors armed with a notebook and the recklessness of my twenty years, trying to look grown-up and reliable?
New York in the summer of ‘24?
Capetown in March ‘27?
Buenos Aires in ‘29, on the Day of the Dead, as the news of Black Tuesday start ticking in through the teleprinters?
Where to start?
It’s like a magician’s show. Pick a card, any card.
And this is my show.
My name is Valerie Cazaret, and this story starts with me bound, gagged and locked inside a steamer trunk. Just like a magician’s.
Cairo, January the 8th 1934.

Gumroad is a good ecommerce platform, and complies with the somewhat Byzantine regulations on matters of Euro-taxes and what not.  My patrons will get the episodes at a discount (or totally free, depending on their pledges), but hey, they are my Patreon supporters, right?
