A Signal to Prepare for the Future
You may one day reach a stopping point in your life. Your job, career, or project may no longer bring you joy. You might wake up to realize it’s time to make a small change. Or, you may realize the time is now for something entirely new.
Feeling stuck promotes future growth.
You have the flexibility to let go of some duties such as involvement with an organization, club, or Board meetings. Sometimes, you may feel the need to let go of multiple tracks all at the same time.
Heart and Mind
The next phase is to consider what your heart and mind are secretly telling you. One problem is the uncertainty of how to achieve your new idea. You feel stopped in your tracks. You find yourself caught between what is no longer working and the uncertainty of new possibility. The worst part is feeling drained just thinking about the entire situation.
Steps to Regain Motivation
Be patient with yourself Take time to figure out the next steps Maintain a positive mindset Research your ideas and tools needed to succeed Share your new vision with trusted others Persevere
As you reach the last two steps, confidence once again builds and you feel completely re-energized. Now you are ready to move forward and take on the world!
Examples via Stories of Friends
Recently, one of my close friends decided to never attend another family reunion. Her recent experience did not bring her joy. Additionally, she is letting go of lots of projects that have now become cumbersome and stressful. She is refining her list of what she wants to keep in her life and what needs to be removed.
Another friend decided to take on travel for the first time and to let go of her part time job. She revealed to her close friends her new ambition. Her first adventure was a recent four-hour trip to Florida. She next scheduled her first trip abroad to India for later this year. And for next year, she is already planning a trip to Italy. Her motivation has kicked in big time!
Still another friend has a job that she loved, but no longer cares about. Some things changed beyond her control, and she too began to feel stuck. She decided to put all of her time and attention into growing her business. Upon recognizing what she wanted to do, she took action, and she too is excited about the future.
My new friend and I met a few months ago. She also shared that she had been feeling stuck (and she is a mover and shaker). We became instant friends. She had been talking about expanding her non-profit. In the past, she has been successful in writing grants for $200,000 and $400,000. Recently, she took a deep breath to write a grant for $2 million. She said both amounts require the same amount of time to write the grant, so she took a giant leap of faith, and is now happier than ever!
At some point, we each get that nagging feeling it is time for a change in our lives. We grow, but eventually, we outgrow what we once loved doing. When we feel stuck, it’s “time for something new.” With a positive mindset, being stuck is our gift in disguise. Why? Because the process restarts our mental engine to consider all the ways in which we may move forward again to experience further growth. Figuring out how to move past the troubling areas is our human greatness at work.
While It might be unpleasant while you are in the midst of change, it’s good to remember that goal setting, a positive mindset and perseverance are your keys to success.
Take quiet time to contemplate possibilities. If you do this, pray and ask for guidance. See what most excites you and that you want to do next. Be true to yourself about what you want to do. Then take action!
The one common trait the people above have is their desire to continue working with humanitarian projects to make a difference in the lives of others. They all want to continue to make a positive change. As we get to each new level of our life, it becomes rewarding fulfilling to help do the same for others.
