If It Starts Here, Where Does It End?

Hey Everyone, This won't be a long post. I just wanted to share something I've been thinking about with you and ask that maybe you take a little time to think about it, too. Recently, I dreamt that I went to see a movie in a theater. But instead of the usual ads they play at the beginning, there was an endless reel of old Nazi propaganda films. I woke up shaking, but the really frightening part is that now that I'm awake I find myself wondering when that will happen in reality. Think about it. Have you seen the campaign ads Republicans are running on TV? I have. They talk about rounding people up and locking them up without trials. The videos of Trump rallies remind me of nothing so much as ...

Kicking A Hornet's Nest

Hey Everyone!! :-) I've got a little more of Alyce's adventure to share with you, today! Enjoy! :-) Excerpt from sci-fi satire novel: There was a building in the background with a fence in front of it. The robots on the inside of the fence were standing by the gate and letting some of the robots who approached in, but keeping many out. There was a crowd of other robots holding signs and with their mouths open, as if they had been frozen just as they were in the middle of shouting something. The robots who were being allowed through the gate were all female. They walked with their heads down and their shoulders hunched, as if in a futile effort to protect themselves from the cruel words about...

United In Spirit; Divided In Practice

Hey Everyone!! :-) I've got a little more of Alyce's adventure to share with you, today! Enjoy! :-) Excerpt from sci-fi satire novel: The two aliens looked at each other and then back at me. They seemed to be at a loss. "What?" I asked. The tall alien crossed his arms over his chest and shook his head. "Do you mean to say that, after everything so many people have done, all the time and energy they have expended, it's possible that nothing will come of it?" I shrugged. "Sure. If people get complacent again, if they don't follow through, if they refuse to see that most of us are fighting for the same things and we need to work together, if they seek an advantage for themselves and their own c...

Small Actions; Big Results?

Hey Everyone!! :-) Today's post will be pretty short. I just want to make a suggestion for all of you to consider. At least, those of you who live in the US might want to consider it. For those of you who live outside the US, you might want to take a look at your own country's laws and find one or more that you think are worth keeping at the back of your mind. Last year and again a few weeks ago, I took it upon myself to print out several copies of the First Amendment, laminated them using those peel and stick laminating kits you can get anywhere stationary supplies are sold, and sent one to each of my elected representatives -- local, state, and federal. With these cards, I included a short...

An Extreme Example Of A Normative Attitude

Hey Everyone, Not long ago, a man in Toronto, Canada ran over a bunch of pedestrians with a van because he was angry that he couldn't convince any of the women he wanted to have sex with to have sex with him. To him, apparently, that was sufficient cause to murder a bunch of innocent people. For a while, the incident was the subject of a lot of online jokes. After all, there's certainly a macabre absurdity in what happened. But, when I heard about this terrorist attack, and that is absolutely what it was, only one thing came to mind: what he did is just the logical outcome of how our society views and treats women. I know, a lot of you are now probably saying that's hyperbole, but I don't th...
