Book review: Jasper Fforde’s Something Rotten

Fforde carries forward the cast of characters from Jurisfiction, Book World, the Goliath Coporation, and Spec Ops, with a greatly increased role for the Neanderthals. The book opens with Thursday & Commander Bradshaw chasing the Page Running Minotaur into Nebraska and into a western shoot out. Thursday has spent 2 years in the Well of Lost Plots. Her son Friday is just over a year old and she decides it’s time to return to Swindon and the real world. Pickwick the Dodo laid an egg, and she too has an offspring, which has a bad attitude. She comes back to find the bank has continued to pay her bills and she’s in deep debt. Jasper has Friday speaking in Lorem Ipsum. Bringing Hamlet and Otto Bismark into the cast of characters, as well as making the Goliath Corporation a religious entity, Fforde continues weaving an entertaining tale.
