Still Breathing

Hello all. If has been a very long time since I’ve been here, but I wanted to assure you that I’m still alive. My life has taken on so many changes, but I’m finally able to breathe. In January, I unplugged from everything spiritual. I laid my dog of 12 years to rest, and I thought I would lose my mind. I took some time to shut off the spirits so that I could grieve. It was difficult coming home without my sweet boy to greet me. My son and I struggled with his loss, and we still do. However, we have a new family member that has really helped us. Her name is Artemis Grace, and I am training her to be a therapy dog. She turned 5 months old on Saturday, and she still has a lot to learn. She is e...

The Women’s Game: It sure Ain’t Beautiful!

With the men’s game now predominated by the usual summer of musicalchairs for millionaires, have you taken in the opportunity to watch any of the UEFAWomen’s World Cup currently taking place in France? I have, and although I am in some agreement here with the sentiments of writers like Sean Ingle et al on many aspects of the ladies game, he and many of his sports writing colleagues don’t dare to touch upon the absolute dire standard of the football on display. If this is this cream of women’s football then it’s leaving quite a sour taste in the mouth. I’m all for mass participation in sport at every level, for every sex and for whatever that sport might be. But watching dozens of ponytails k...

England: 53 Years And Still Taking The Positives!

This is our latest box-to-box model, Mr Southgate! Typical. You wait a lifetime for a bit of success and then, like London buses, two semi-finals come along in less than last twelve months. Surely this gives us hope and optimism. Our ridiculously overpaid, overrated and overhyped footballers are getting ever closer to ending over fifty years of famine. It might not have come home yet but at least, it seems, the beautiful game might have made a note of our address. Now I don’t want to alarm anybody out there, particularly the brainless, drunken gobshites who masquerade as football supporters and who stink up every place the team plays in, but  I’m afraid that this is as good as it’s gonna get...

After a brilliant Easter weekend filled with plenty of sunshine and temperatures reaching 74F/24C, we’ve struggled since Tuesday to hit 60F/15C. So who was born on this date in history? Let’s find out who in the writing world was born on April 28th. (Compliments of http://www.onthisday.com/today/birthdays): Charles Cotton, English poet and writer; Karl Kraus, Austrian satirical writer; Franz Arnold, German writer; Bruno Apitz, German writer (Nackt unter Wölfen); Johan Borgen, Norwegian author (Lillel...

To those who are celebrating Easter, I hope you have a peaceful and joyous day! The weather’s been great this week, providing plenty of warm weather and sunshine. Perfect time to tackle the backyard, which was left to its own resources by the previous owner. Suffice to say, it became overgrown and well on the way in taking over what was a superb collection of trees, shrubs, and flowers. A bit of hard work (well perhaps a lot) and it’ll be back in shape. This week I’d like to introduce you to a new author, Jonathan Pongratz. His first publication is a novella called Reaper. Jonathan is a writer of captivating horror, urban fantasy, and  paranormal stories. When he’s not writing, he’s busy bei...

It’s been sunny the past few days, although still a bit chilly. However, this gave an opportunity to get some weeding done in the back yard, which hadn’t been tackled yet. Things are looking better, but plenty more to do! So who was born on this date in history? Let’s find out who in the writing world was born on April 14th. (Compliments of http://www.onthisday.com/today/birthdays): Abraham Elsevier, Dutch book publisher; James Branch Cabell, American novelist and essayist (Restless Heads); Ernst Robert Curtius, German literature historian; Arnold J. Randall’s Ramblings, April 7, 2019

Since last Sunday, we’ve only had one day with plenty of sunshine and no rain. They say April showers bring May flowers. Hopefully the snow, sleet, and hail hasn’t damaged too many of the flowers that are already blooming. Looks like we’re in for another day of overcast skies and misting rain. So who was born on this date in history? Let’s find out who in the writing world was born on April 7th. (compliments of http://www.onthisday.com/today/birthdays): William Wordsworth, English poet laureate (The Prelude); Flora Tristan, French writer and social activist; J. P. [Jens Peter] Jacobsen, Danish writer (Niels Lyhne); Gerald Brenan, English writer; Robert Charroux, French writer; Henry Kuttner,...

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to all the Irish! Mother Nature had another laugh yesterday, throwing rain, sleet, and snow at us. Eventually, it turned back to rain and the snow disappeared, at least at the lower elevations. This morning, when I went to get the daily paper, snow still graced the higher elevations.  So who was born on this date in history? Let’s find out who in the writing world was born on March 17th. (compliments of http://www.onthisday.com/today/birthdays): Ebenezer Elliott, British Poet. Know as the “Corn Law Rhymer'”; Jean Ingelow, English poet; Oskar Peschel, German journalist/geography (Volkerkunder); Kristian Elster, Norwegian author (Less bror Harris); Urmuz, Romanian wri...

Here we are in another month. Seems like only yesterday we celebrated New Year’s! It’s great to have more daylight, even if the weather’s still a bit unsettled. The plants seem to think spring is on the way as more and more buds are popping out each day. Hope there’s no sudden dip in the temperature to cause them harm. The painting moved from the hallway to the living room. Things appear to be completed for now, although when the doors and windows can be left open, it’ll be time to paint the trims. So who was born on this date in history? Let’s find out who in the writing world was born on March 3rd. (compliments of http://www.onthisday.com/today/birthdays): Edmund Waller, England, poet (Pen...

It’s been a busy week. A wall came down; a doorway was sealed. Parts of the floor were ripped up. The old kitchen was ripped out and a new one is installed, except for a few tweaks. Hopefully, the new flooring will be delivered as scheduled and by the end of this coming week, things will be wrapping up. Of course, there will still be some tiling to do, as well as some painting, and an island added. When everything’s finished, we’ll have a new eat-in kitchen. So who was born on this date in history? Let’s find out who in the writing world was born on February 10th. (compliments of http://www.onthisday.com/today/birthdays): John Suckling, English Cavalier poet/dramatist/courtier; William Congr...
