What if you went out with your friends to earn extra money shoveling snow and you ended up saving a life? That’s exactly what happened to Coby, Rebecca, Marcello and Jerry in Lasalle, Colorado. They were walking through the neighborhood knocking on doors when they heard someone yelling. Rebecca called 91 when she noticed the door was locked. Paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital. As it happened, an elderly man fell and was lying on the floor for days before he was rescued. Imagine what kind of amazing kid’s books these young people could create about saving someone’s life.
Here’s what one of the paramedics said after rescuing the gentleman;
“You could clearly see he was in pain,” Zach Hill of the LaSalle Fire Department told NBC. “This gentleman had been there for, we’re not sure how long, and we don’t know how long he would’ve been there had they are not knocked on the door so they had a huge part in getting him help.”
One of the teens said, “I want to go visit him in the hospital. I felt like he needed me. He needed us.” The four youngsters learned something very valuable that day. Don’t you think they’ll always remember it’s not only pocket money that’s important? You never know when you’ll have the opportunity to change a life, or even save one.
If you like animals and kid’s books about helping others you may enjoy either Charlene the Star and Bentley Bulldog, or Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes. In Bentley’s story, the bulldog is a rude obnoxious bully when readers first meet him. Can the other animal characters help change Bentley’s attitude? You’ll be surprised what happens next.
If you read the third of my kid’s books, Charlene the Star and Hattie’s Heroes, you find the animal friends seeking ways to help others in their spare time. They decide to start their own business to help some of their friends solve a problem. I hope you love meeting Charlene, Hattie, Wooliam, Elliott and their pals.
