I’ve just presented a very early first draft for a new project. There’s not much I can say about it right now, but let’s say there’s dinosaurs in it, and a lost world of sorts, and I’m trying not to do a rehash of The House of the Gods, and have fun.
My outline includes Mole People.
Because I loved that old movie, and Mole People are just cool, and I’d love to do a bit, as part of this project of mine, called Queen of the Mole People – featuring a character I cannot but envision as Sza Sza Gabor.
But it was suggested I use Lizardmen instead.
And of course, as long as weird, non-human antagonists go, Lizardmen are perfectly fine. Indeed, we have seen a few fine examples of Lizardmen in the past.
And I really don’t know what will happen – this being a commercial project, we will probably follow what’s popular, and the public at large seems to like Lizardmen a lot more than Mole People.
But that is, to me, one of the main reasons why Mole People are better. Because we can still give the people what they want, and yet drop in a little bit of unexpected stuff.
Like Mole People.
Let’s see…Lizardmen – are familiar to the public, having appeared in a number of movies and TV shows, and you sort of expect them when there’s dinosaurs running around. They are cold-blooded reptilian creatures that hate humans, and who knows what’s on their mind. Cold inhuman minds, you know… They are pretty sluggish on a cold day. Mole People – they live underground, are really good at digging and doing stuff in the dark, and we know next to nothing about their biology or psychology or society. You can scare them off with a flashlight. From the only movie about them we learn they are a slave race.
And indeed, thanks to the slave race thing, I am actually seeing a way in which I’ll be able to work both Lizardmen and Mole People in my project, keeping everybody happy, and adding a neat twist, and even doing a homage to an old classic.
All in one classy package.
See what strange things I have to think about on a Saturday afternoon?
Boy this writing business is just getting weirder by the day.
