Tossed out of Valhalla, Sorrow Hawke is forced to adjust to human life. But it’s hard when the handler assigned to watch over her won’t leave her alone.
Sexy as sin, with a wicked grin and a body that won’t stop, Hayden is making Sorrow’s new attempt at a normal life difficult. He knows he’s supposed to keep his distance, but he’s always been a sucker for a damsel in distress.
But Sorrow is a Valkyrie. She might be a damsel, but the only thing distressing about her is her wicked temper and proclivity for violence.
Ignoring my wishes for him to keep his hands off my pods, he reached in and made himself at home.
Once the liquid finished brewing, he ignored my offer of the half and half and pulled the mug up to his mouth.
I couldn’t help the sneer of distaste forming on mine. “Only
heathens drink their coffee black.”
Hayden’s warm gaze sparkled with amusement. His tanned
throat worked as he swallowed. “Only wimps drink theirs watered down.”
I stiffened, resisting the urge to draw my sword. “Take it
The mug lowered from his lips. “No.” He was still amused,
but something had changed in those few seconds. Tension crackled in the air.
I took a step toward him. “Take. It. Back,” I enunciated
each word slowly. “Only fools diminish the battle prowess of a Valkyrie.”
Hayden set his mug down on the counter. His posture was
wary, but his gaze sparked with interest.
Heat spread from my chest down to my toes.
I realized I wanted to taste Hayden Summers. And not his
blood. This was something different than battle lust. This was pure and simple heat.
I stopped in realization.
No. We were both playing with fire.
I swallowed hard and took one step back, but Hayden wasn’t done with me. Faster than a snake, he reached out, grasped my arm, and slammed me into his chest.
Hi, everyone! I’m Sheryl. I write lighter paranormals and
How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?
I’ve been writing forever, but began to seriously pursue
the art about four years ago. I started my first (terrible) book in high school and never looked back.
How did you come up with this storyline?
I’m obsessed with all things mythology and thought it
would be fun to write about a cast out Valkyrie.
What are the best and the worst aspects of writing?
The best - all the coffee I get to drink and no one
judges me. The worst? Edits or finding something in your manuscript that you cannot interpret. It always makes me think what in the heck is wrong with me and what was I trying to say??
What inspires you to write?
The every day. Writing is my outlet.
How did you conduct your research for Sorrow’s Beginning?
I’m more versed in Greek mythology than Norse, but I
still have some knowledge. Basically I needed locations and some creature names.
What are 3 of your favorite quotes from Sorrow’s
"They are designed to hunt prey. Any warrior worth
their salt cannot watch a cat for more than an hour and not realize they are constantly plotting to kill their human servants.”
"You leave here and stalk my window each day and
night?" I asked, thoroughly confused.
I couldn’t help the sneer of distaste forming on mine.
“Only heathens drink their coffee black.”
Any more Favorites from Sorrow’s Beginning:
The cat puzzle was my favorite passage.
What would your friends say is your best quality?
Honesty. They love it and they hate it.
Are reader reviews important to you? Why?
Of course they’re important! Readers are an author’s
lifeblood. Without them and their feedback, I’d be writing for no one. And that wouldn’t be very fun.
What do you do when you don’t write? Like in “Real Life”
Prior to being a writer, I was in the military for a long
Tell us about your other books?
My other books are quite a bit lighter than this story,
but they are all based on some form of mythology. I have a Greek mythology mystery series where Aphrodite is the main character. I also have a twisted fairytale series where Snow White leads the story.
If you could share one thing about yourself that you
would like readers to know what would it be?
Hmmm. I can make a mean cupcake!
Plus, I’m working on a lot of new books, and I hope they check my work out!
Thanks so much for having me today!
S.E. Babin is an award-winning author with a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel. Beginning with discarded pages of angsty novels and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool.
