Springtime is here, time to start learning again
I just enrolled in a new course in Transmedia Storytelling – this time on Coursera, a platform I don’t like very much1 but that is offering what I am interested in.
This is the third course I take on the subject, and the fact that I enrolled means I feel like I’ll have a modicum of free time in the next weeks.
Yes, the bulk of the work is done. Hooray!
And I have also enrolled in a Udemy drawing course, taking advantage of a very good offer.
And I guess this is my quota completely filled at the moment – because I will have more free time, but not that much free time.
I’m also reading an interesting book, called Seventy Eight Degrees of Wisdom, by Rachel Pollack. Interesting book on the ins and outs of tarot meanings, psychology and the lot.
I got interested in the subject many years ago, reading the Tarot trilogy by Piers Anthony, and later was fascinated by the way Roger Zelazny used the cards in his Amber stories. Later still came Alejandro Jodorowski with his books and tarot lectures. And as I mentioned a few days back, Italian author Italo Calvino wrote a whole book using the tarot.
Also, there was some talk recently here in our skunkworks shed about using the tarot to enhance the character creation and magic system of the Mana Bros games.
So it’s time to go back to school.
I realize at this point that – possibly due to the fact that I spent most of my life in school in one way or another – I have a need to learn something new to recharge my batteries.
And most of what I do usually provides food for thought and new ideas for stories, projects, the works.
Like – what about a writing course based on the Tarot?
Would somebody be interested, I wonder?
Anyway, this is it on the learning and planning front for the time being.
I also got a few interesting history books, but we’ll talk about those tomorrow.
