Stories out of nowhere

One day I will have to find someone good with brains – a neuro-shrink or something – and try and get a final answer to the great question:

How come that when I am overloaded with work, with my hands aching for too much typing and half a dozen deadlines looming closer… how come that then, and just then, I get an idea for a new story and I end up spending one whole afternoon outlining it and looking for resources?

Anyway, I’m in a mood for fantasy, and I’ve done just that – spent the best part of the day outlining an idea that might develop into a novella, and who knows what else.

Pity I do not have the time to write it right now – yes, I could stop sleeping, but that’s really bad for health, they tell me.

By the way, my take on the whole thing is – when our brain is overstimulated by the need of coming up with ideas and solutions for the story at hand, it sort of gets in overdrive, and produces an excess of ideas. As these drift by our conscious mind, that part of it that’s always on the lookout for good ideas spots a few, hooks them and drags them in, and passes them on to the assembly line that puts together plots
The plot department at the moment is idle, because we’re writing something that’s been plotted and outlined already, and so when they get the stray ideas salvaged from the waste stream, they get to work with it – raking advantage of the surplus of energy the whole writing thing is causing.
And there you are, soon a plot pops out of nowhere.
And no one trying to make ends meet by writing lets a plot go by unchallenged. So you stop everything and jot it down. And add a few elements, check a few facts, note a few options…

Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Now back to writing.
