Where I Live
Indiana

Keira lives with her clan in the Valley shut off from the outside world. It is a primitive culture where all the adults have been sent to the mines to labor gathering silver and all the children have been set to work gathering grain by day and studying verses from The Great Book by night in order to gain favor from their 'Mother'. Mother interprets the verses of the Great Book and encourages her 'children' to live rightly and justly and to not sin against the book. It is the only truth they know and they work hard to earn Mother's favors. Keira's spirit is troubled, however. One day she discovers something to eat that isn't made from the golden grain. Her eyes are immediately open to the possibility that Mother's truth may not be the truth after all.
