A native of France, I could hardly speak English when I emigrated to the U.S. A few years later, however, and after obtaining a Master's in English Lit, I founded a literary magazine and had work published both nationally and internationally. Although I am fluent in three languages, English is my language of choice when it comes to creative writing. The reasons for this are emotional and explained on my website (http://mariejofortis.com). My satiric thriller Chainsaw Jane germinated from a couple of simple elements. I love mysteries, for one. And I know a tiny sixty-something woman who trims her own trees with a chainsaw. Plus, I read Tarot. These elements led to the character of Chainsaw Jane. From that, a whole novel fermented.
