Excellent mystery, with human interest

Thoroughly entertaining story that I couldn’t put down, so I read it from start to finish in one sitting (allowing minor interruptions like a council planning meeting, cleaning beer lines at the village hall, lunch and washing up!) The story revolves around a small-town detective dealing with ongoing cases, his own domestic crisis, a stabbing outside a pub and a double murder. A good detective, he soon finds he is facing an internal investigation that won’t go away and an ever-deepening series of clues and connections to old crimes that just don’t add up, yet barriers from above seem to be discouraging. A really well-worked crime story that is worthy of a wide audience. The story leaves his personal life unresolved, so hopefully a follow-up is in the pipeline.
