Having just moved to a new town, Ryan is fascinated with Rhiannon, the girl he sees walking past his house each day. Finally brave enough to approach her in a rain storm, the two embark on a friendship that defies most standards and sustains them through times both good and bad. Before succumbing to an illness, Rhiannon promises Ryan that if she can, she will return to give him a sign that she is still with him. He spends years waiting in vain only to discover that these messages are rarely bold, but instead, are often just glimmers against the open sky.
